Useful for doing SD-Card backup

This app is very helpful for performing a 16GB SD-Card backup with ‚dd

Does exactly what it says it will, allowing you to block the sleep of your computer, which is helpful if you have an iMac which I’ve noticed doesn’t always respect the sleep settings in system settings. The ability to differentiate between system sleep and display sleep is nice, as well as the timeout feature. I find this usefull uploading large files or outputting lots of videos through premiere overnight. When I get up I know they’ll be done and not stalled halfway.

iMac 5k 2015 - Was having aggrevating problem of having USB3 drives ejecting randomly, and gauranteed ejections when the display would sleep. Sleep in prefrences was turned off, Hard Drive sleep was turned off. I decided to try this little app utility, under suspicion that the system would go into some sort of sleep mode and even though hard drive sleep was off, also force hard drives to sleep/disconnect. It has fixed my external hard drive ejecting problems completely. Been using for what must be a week and not one random drive ejection. Thanks!

Excelent little app, exactly what I wanted - to lock & sleep my display (either on battery or while on AC power) and leave the system running ! Works as it should with Yosemite (10.10.2)

Flopescu · 11 years ago

All the other apps that prevent sleep only go to 5 hours or indefinite. Sometimes I need more than 5 hours but don’t want indefinite. I’ve finally found an app that has an 8 hour timer in it, which is just what I need!

YukiDaviji · 10 years ago

I’m not sure, but I think this app helps to keep my external hard mounted. I don’t wake my computer finding the warning that the drive was improperly ejected since installing & using! I also use Mountain. So the combination of the two has cured my problem (fingers crossed)!

gMike18 · 10 years ago

I had use caffeine, NoSleep, etc. But they all have some problems. This app’s UI is beautiful, i like it. But if it can work when i close lid, i will very thanks for developer.

meritozh · 10 years ago

You can accomplish all this app offers by playing with the system preferences. I want an app that keepls my external drive active so I can backup using time machine when I close the lid. THIS IS NOT THE APP TO DO THAT.

GregginBos · 10 years ago

Love it. I have a lot of cloud storage, so I usually have 10-50 GB uploading. A computer going to sleep would mean that the best time to upload - when I’m not using it at all - would be wasted. This app solves that problem - and makes sure that I can screen share in when I’m using WiFi on the NY Subway to check in on my uploads at home. Great. The only thing I’d like is if I could close the lid and still keep extending my display to an AppleTV. While I’m watching a movie, I want to close the computer so the battery saves, but watch it on the big screen using AirPlay. I haven’t figured out how to do that. :-( d

Picky-Picasso · 10 years ago

This solves a problem I have with Synergy…their screen saver delay and activity config is broken - this makes things mutch less annoying when my screen would always go dark and force me to login! Thank you!

another kev · 10 years ago

i suppose it will be good for keeping sleep from stopping uploads to the internet, but i downloaded it so i could play music with my laptop closed - which it does not support :( hope there will be an update soon with that added feature bc the UI is very simple and great.

Great App

Just what I needed to prevent the screen saver coming on while working with my audio production.

nTcMastering · 5 months ago

Do

Our company has massive security on our systems that force them to sleep every 5 minutes which means if we get coffee or chat with a colleague we have to re-open every app and project again. Sleep Control Centre prevents that and allows me to keep working flawlessly.

DL_Do · 11 months ago

Awesome app!!!

I use this app to make sure the screen, display & HD does not go to sleep during my time machine backups to an external drive. It makes this VERY easy & assures the backup is not interrupted. Great app!!!!!

Did not apply to another Mac

I paid for pro account for this app, but when I downloaded to my new Mac, pro account is downgraded to regular. Do I have to buy it again?

Flappybirdhaslost · 1 year ago

Unresponsive developer!

Every few days, the Prevent System Sleep when lid is closed feature stops working and I’ve got to toggle it off and back on to restore functionality. I’ve emailed the developer and received neither satisfaction from an update nor even a response. I paid $7.99 for this app, and I’m not feeling like my purchase was even the least bit appreciated. This developer likes money but doesn’t like having to earn it!

Works great

I had tried a number of other solutions that did not work. Including some well known ones. This works for me on my M4 MacMini.

Amphetamine does all this for free

There are free apps that do all of this. Really? A subscription for a keep-alive app? There’s a pre-installed command called “caffeinate” you can run in the terminal that accomplishes 95% of what this does. Just type in ‘caffeinate’ and it will keep your Mac awake. Works with Sonoma as well, and on AMD and Apple silicon. Comes with the OS. I had a specific use case which was why I was looking for something. I found this, and then realized I’d already downloaded an app that does all of this already. Amphetamine. Completely free. No ads. No buys. NO SUBSCRIPTIONS. It just works. If you want to pay for this, it does do what it promises, at least for the ‘free’ stuff. The useful stuff is all pay to play.

Unintrusive to workflow

Seems to work well for me. Will try pro feature trial and update

Sc234 · 1 year ago

Fails to deactivate

Current version of the app fails to deactivate when turned off. All the orbs will go from green to grey, but the system will no longer go to sleep when the lid is closed after it has been activated and deactivated. This poses of course a battery drain problem but also an overheating problem when stored in typical laptop bags and backpacks.

Works Perfectly

This app works perfectly, it does exactly what it says it will and a lot more. If I have any criticism is that it has too many features. The free version of this app did everything I needed. I purchased the Pro version to support the developer.

BobRower · 1 year ago

Not great

It keeps your machine awake which is good when you dont want to log in everytime you come back to your work, but the mouse action does not work. I like to use that to keep my teams status at available if I step aside longer then like 3 mins but this aspect does not work for me. Its not completely useless but not what I loaded this for.

non responsive developer

decent app but has several issues. developer does not respond.

Snakepaste · 2 years ago

Bad. Use a free version off GitHub instead.

Unclear how to purchase PRO version. And many free GitHub equivalent projects.

Nicely done

Fully configurable. Does what it says.

Yguerra_883 · 2 years ago

Works great. Have used for years. Finally paid for pro account

This app does exactly what I need, and the interface from the menu bar is simple. When doing backups or other processes when I want to be 100% sure my Mac does not go into sleep mode, this app has never failed me. At $7.99, it's a good price, and I finally paid it, instead of using it for free. The developer created a good app, and I appreciate it! :)

Works on my MacBook Air M2

Needed this utility to prevent sleep mode when running on battery. It works perfectly and has some other nice options, although I don't use them very often.

Fake reviews

I did try it requires power supply for lid closed dont buy

ParshVDIKDID · 2 years ago

I would like it a bit more flexible and better in the responses.

I know that most here consider using mac os a privillege and critisism is not regarded well. Also, if you search more critical threads, in the end it is always the users' fault and noone else to blame. However, I have these to say. The current plugin does the things that the OP should be doing by default. It is a must have. But, it does not work well. For example, this is my biggest problem: 1. Use mac with external monitor and close lid 2. Open the app. 3. Activate it 4. Dectivate it and close it. 5. Re-open the App and the OP will disconnect from the montor, or the monitor will go dark. Why?? The one thing that I would think could improve the interaction would be to have profiles high on the dropdown menu.

Not at all happy...

I've noted that if I make the mistake of unplugin my laptop for any reason then plugging it back in, I cannot use Splashtop because the computer will not stay awake. It works fine if the machine has never been unplugged since startup. I've checked the settings. It should not be sleeping when the lid is closed and on AC power. But it does. This is very inconvenient and leaves the computer unusable. Completely pointless to have this application if it cannot do what it is intended to do.

Sleep Control Cetre

Most full featured "basic" app I've ever used. Several processes that I use can easily take 3 to 4 hours to complete. I tried terminal entry(s) and a couple of other apps. This one worked where others failed at some point.

The Best App for Power Management and Computer Sleep Control

I've been using Sleep Control Centre for several years. Every update has simply expanded the already-powerful features. So much better than the native OS settings and certainly better than other MacOS Apps I've seen. I set my default settings pretty aggresive, since I usually work with my Macbook Pro attached to external power, a mionitor, and one or more external drives. So I prevent my laptop from system sleep, display sleep, external drive sleep, and prevent it from going into sleep mode because the screen/lid is closed. When I want to switch back to the more typical default settings, I can either click on the App icon in the menu bar to disable it or, since I set it to deactivate when I'm, not connected to external power, I can just unplug the USB-C power cable. The second option is easiest, but both work. I can set it to automatically activate everything again just by plugging the power back in. Or, I can leave that open off and just do it with a click in the menu bar. Pavlo has been on top of every update over the five or more years I've been using Sleep Control Centre. I don't know about customer support because I've never needed it. Again, I wish that were always true.

Doesn't fully lock keyboard and mouse

Works okay, but function keys are still active and can lead to unlock without using the CMD ESC pattern. Seems that multi-touch gesture controls can also bypass the lock. I just want to be able to clean my keyboard. Apple makes it hard, this makes it marginally easier.

Jason Adrian · 3 years ago

Useful but not user friendly

I purchased the pro version and it works well. But it seems every time I enable the app it affects the Continuity function between MacOS and iPadOS (I have a wired connection between devices). Hoping an update addresses this issue, but can't find a way to force an update within the app for the life of me. There's also no option to force the update in the App store. Only place I can find the version info is in the Help section. I'm on v2.18 ( I think) and there have been three iterations published since. How do I update the app?

Pretty good at what it does

i'm happy with my pro account purchase. the only feature on my whish list that's missing is "deactivate on external monitor disconnect"

_liminor · 3 years ago

best app of it's kind

simple to configure ... and can achieve just the right complex configuration also. Very good. Please refactor your code/app to easily add mac's new "shortcut" features

maxwellzdeamon · 3 years ago

Has a bug

It's good, but it has a bug. When you set this app to automatically start with the system; it blocks any typing.. you can move the mose and go from here to there, but when try to type, impossible. You have to switch this app off, then open it up again. Other than this, the app works as expected.

Does not work on 2021 MBP running Monterey

I turned on all the 'prevent sleep' checkboxes and when I close the macbook the network connection drops after a few minutes. If I leave the macbook open it does seem to work but my main application is to keep the computer fully awake (display off is ok) when the laptop is closed.

Does Not Work with lid closed

Does everything you could need, reliably!

The app even works when the lid is closed. Pretty much every permutation of sleep activation and deactivtion is supported, and all of it simply works! It could use a bit of user experience design love, but as a UX designer, I am biased :)

Great app, finally something which just works as expected and prevent people from contorlling my mac. I'm in control now. Cheers guys!
